Plus One
t-minus 36 hours.
not a whole lot of time to blog just now, but there are a few things i wanted to share in the carbonated moments before departure.
after an insane day of packing/cleaning (in re; the biggest ever shout-out goes to Corg for having the world's best timing and helping us schlep without even being called) i'm in bartlebee's truck heading towards the bay bridge.
and the euphoria sets in. i just start grinning. i'm completely filthy and exhausted. i can barely shift gears i'm so tired. but i've done it. a year ago, when i had this crazy scheme to get hitched and jet it was this crazy scheme.
that worked.
and now? bartlebee's thesis is done. bound. printed. i'm wed. the apartment is empty and clean. our crap has been sold and our better crap is in boxes in the back of a Budget rental truck (note: try Budget, so much better than U-Haul!) which bartlebee is driving ahead of me. i did it. the crazy scheme is crazy reality.
and then i realize that i am leaving san francisco. almost out of it already. and i have no idea when i'll be back. a rush of memory burns through me like flaming black powder. crashing with ben & jess when i first arrived. living off dolores park. hanging lights with jesse. working downtown and luring scherlmy and boo up from LA. dates and parties and rainstorms and friends and fights and all of it. almost a decade's worth of it.
i moved up to SF in '96 with a bunch of crap in the back of a vehicle. now i'm leaving SF with a bunch of crap in the back of a vehicle and a wife.
this town's been good to me. beautifully so.
so now, on my way out, i raise my glass (it's coffee -- 9:38 am) to the city and to all of you. for being good to me.
we're all set to go. don't need anything else. don't have anything but a pack each. we're wearing the clothes we'll bring with us and the rest is stored thanks to sylvia, who is frankly a godsend and a goddess.
may your dreams come true as well.
see you in africa.

Who knows when you'll get to read this, but Bartlebee, your mothers cookies are awesome. Thanks for that, and happy trails!

tip: you may last longer if you don't blog while driving ;)
but seriously, a big fat congratulations and bon voyage!
my only tear is for the plain fact of life: we didn't move up to the city soon enough before you and B left.
With any luck, we'll see you elsewhere in the world sometime soon :)
