Grandpa?
the filming is done.
despite the best efforts of the client, everything went very well.
we showed up at nine, ready to go. they were supposed to have set up the computer station so our actors could go straight into the test trial.
hah. in short succession we discovered that they hadn't installed the peripherals. they hadn't confirmed a possible connection. they hadn't installed the necessary software. since we were asking our cast to set up a network and use it, all this was a bit of an issue. surprisingly, however, we did finally get a contract...
our big problem? a missing tripod head. luckily shlermy allowed himself to be roused from his saturday morning slumber long enough to let jedi ted in to grab his.
we were ready to shoot at 10:00. they had something for us to shoot at 11:00.
in short, our cast turned out to be absolutely perfect. our "soccer mom" -- ted's brother's wife -- very quickly got frustrated trying to set up the router. she didn't understand the terminology in the instruction manual. she called tech support and couldn't understand what the foreign gentleman was saying. she looked at the camera and said, truthfully, "this is impossible! i give up!"
since our client is selling a product that will automate this process, this is precisely what we wanted to hear! yea soccer mom!
our second actor was this sixteen year old kid. grew up with computers. has a myspace website. he only got a little farther. he got the router working on his own and got the laptop to connect wirelessly. then, trying to share the printer, he hit his wall.
he called his grandpa for help. it was fucking beautiful. here's this kid, big hair, braces, wrinkled t-shirt all bemused and calling his freakin' grandpa for computer help. after fourty-five minutes he gives up as well. "so. uh. i can't do this?"
our third actor, sassyass, gets the whole shebang working in twenty minutes. he's supposed to be the professional geek. how does he get it working?
by using dos commands. DOS.
HMC, our third crewperson, rocked the house and we got the whole shoot done early. i was in bed napping by 5:00. now all i gots to do is review the edits with jedi ted and wait for the check.
other than that? i spent my weekend cleaning the bathroom.
this is my last monday at work.
