It's All Digital

| | Comments (2)

today i wrote an email to my boss.

you know, one of those emails that's all like: here's what i really think.

i told him that if he kept on touching me like that i was going to quit.

no. ha ha! just kidding. i love it when he touches me.

it really said: if we don't start making our music available for digital download we're going to be as relevant as wax records. it said that there's practically no money to be made, but we can either make a dime and remain in the mix or we'll make nothing and wave forlornly to the kids as they walk past with thier iPods cranking. and maybe one day they'll take their date to a concert.

CDs are dead. the recording industry is dead. the movie industry is a foundering ship. books will fondly remember being burned.

get with the program.

i can download MC Frontalot tracks for free. they bring me as much pleasure as the professionally produced music the labels try to sell me. so why would i buy a cd? so i can pay some asshole to bribe radio stations to play music that i don't want to hear on a radio i don't own? so the flavor of the week can get promoted at the expense of artists with talent?

you want to get rich? stop making music and start making porn. you want to create art? there's a living you can eke out if you bust your ass.

the old model is dead. we're cutting out the middleman. the only thing between your art and my senses is bandwidth. i don't need cover art printed on paper. i don't need jewel cases.

they can sue all the pirates they want. it's a losing battle.

i cut most of my hair off last night. now i'm cold.

if you cut off all your hair, then you're ready to make some porn! lube up and i'll start the camera, and wait for the dollars to start rolling in.

by "cut off all your hair," are you talking about the back hair? nose hair? as i remember, the head hair was already fashionably shaven.

as for music...i was trumpeting the music industry's imminent demise proudly a few years ago! ha! needless to say, the industry hasn't actually, er, collapsed in the meantime. but here's hoping! at the very least, let's pay middle (wo)men whom we select for their taste instead of the tastefree industry hacks...the music would be free, but it would be a slow slog to find the stuff we liked, so we'd give a little to the person who found it for us. in my case, those people are usually my friends 'cuz i don't listen to much radio or buy many cds, and i sure would be happy giving the money to them instead.

wait, then a whole new industry would evolve with the musicians still staying poor and the tastemakers getting rich and we'd have time warner all over again. i don't know what i'm talking about. but that mc frontalot dude sure does rock! uh...yeah. porrrrrn!
