I Blog Because I Care

good morning!

yes. it is monday and i, i have done absolutely nothing all weekend! sloth! i live it! i roll around in it! i smear it on the back of my neck so its heady odor can transport me back to bed when i let my head slump against the keyboard.

sloth! one of seven deadly sins? maybe. but if so, certainly the best. although lust does have it's place... but my finance was away this weekend, so sloth it is!

i did do SOME things. i walked the dog numerous times. i worked on some xmas projects. i bought some xmas gifts through the magic of the internets. i watched spongebobsquarepants with ed and heater and her lil brother mikey.

i also ate vast quantities of sushi with mr. mcshlernihan.

what? boring? my weekend was boring?

no. it was relaxing. re-lax-ing.

and boy did i need that.

this month has been too full.

but... two things happened this weekend that made me stop and go, 'get to work.'

the first is my brother heard back from this editor at chronicle books about his short gift book about heckling. my brother is a gifted heckler. he should make business cards that read "professional heckler." or, even better, he should have cards that read "_______, you suck!" so he could write your name in it before he handed it to you. it's feasible that they will want to publish this little book which will mean of my immediate family only me and my sister will not have published books. and she has children which is LIKE publishing a book but with less editorial back and forth.

and i'm the writer, see? he's an urban planner/heckler. oh, the shame. i have not been writing much lately except for this blog and even this blog has kind of sucked lately. where is all the beautiful language? the deft turns of phrase that make you wipe the sloth from the back of your neck, rip off your unitard and dance freely in the crisp december air? they are not here. they are still in bed.

the other thing that happened is i heard that anna-smurfy, whom i lived in a co-op with in college and whom i thought was kinda foxy, is now a reporter for NPR. success! the word is that she reports on, get this, chinese punk bands.

oh. yeah. chinese punk bands? fluent in mandarin? npr? uh. i could do that. someday. after i watch some spongebob.

i also heard that another co-oper got divorced. that sucks. he is turning himself around by studying cage fighting. really.

i have weird friends.

so, i feel the 'get to work' pressure so i too can be a published author who is fluent in mandarin punk.

i need to start working on my book proposal. and plan a wedding. and relax.

i would also like to tell you that i just got a phone call from ronan. ronan is one. i guess rachel was letting him play with the phone even though the last time she did that he hid it in the broiler and they did not find it until AFTER they cooked dinner. we talked for a while but it was mostly a one sided conversation. he did tell me that rachel secretly dresses up like My Little Pony when no one else is around and she is hoping someone will buy her a bunch of guniea pigs for christmas.

then we just talked about chicks and cars for a while. ronan likes 'em both fast.

my finance comes home tonight. i will fetch her from the aeropuerto. in the truck. i admit i vastly dislike driving the truck, specifically at night whether or not i'm hopped up on goofballs. it's big. i can't see out the back window. i have lousy night vision. i find it anxietating.

but if i have to drive it to see my baby, that's what i'll do. i'll just get all hopped up on goofballs first.

i like the freudian slip of spelling fiance as "finance." do you know the song "work" from lou reed/john cale's "songs for drella?" lights fire under ass.
