The Problem with Democrats
here's what's wrong with democrats:
Farenheit 9/11
i finally got around to watching it. here's what i think farenheit 9/11 is. F911 is a rallying call for pre-ralled troops. F911 is innuendo and slander disguised as documentary -- in other words, propaganda. F911 is propaganda that, with only a slight shift of perspective is indistinguishable from conspiracy theory nutcase-land. there is very little resembling facts in it. bush read a story book instead of reacting to a surprise terrorist attack. what would you have done? bush has connections to oil companies. no shit. congress didn't read the patriot act -- was that the republicans or the democrats? both? oh. great. war is killing people. well open my eyes michael moore! you sure are a cup of coffee on a dark and dreary monday.
why, you ask, am i beating up on F911? i'll tell you why.
it's called The Fog of War.
how many of you saw F911? raise your hands. now, how many of you saw The Fog of War?
really? because the FoW is not only a supremely better film, it also is both a documentary and actually convincing -- not that bush is an asshole, because hardly anyone who likes bush would be convinced to rethink their entire philosophy by F911, but that the things that democrats want from the world are important, intelligent, and noble. and that bush is making mistakes in light of this.
F911 tried to pull gwb's pants down. FoW would have made kerry look like a hero, a sage, and a leader.
but i guess pulling people's pants down was seen as an effective strategy.
FoW is a long interview with Robert McNamara. RM was instrumental in the firebombing of Japan during WWII and he was secretary of defence for kennedy and johnson, meaning he was there for the cuban missle crisis and vietnam.
not: he was there as in he watched. he was there as in he was secretary of defence. he was a man who could have started WWIII and he may be a man who avoided it.
why is FoW so effective? because here is a man who liberals would sit next to rumsfeld at a party, talking about how he made mistakes and what he learned from them.
nuggets such as: "if countries with similar value systems -- france, germany -- don't support your actions then that is a clear sign that you're making a mistake." (sic) he was talking about vietnam.
i didn't mean to watch it last night. i was going to watch Waking Life which i also had in the house. FoW looked really depressing and i didn't need anything else like that this week. waking life, however, was so godawful dull that i turned it off after half an hour. FoW was captivating and inspiring and thought-provoking.
people who watch this film, democrats, republicans, will need to stop and take a long hard look at what we're doing and why. there is no controversary about its claims because it's a documentary -- not propaganda dressed up like a documentary.
it's a movie about a man who took us to war and regrets it. it's a movie about a war criminal. it's a movie about letting ideology sweep you away.
what democrats need is not a rallying cry. what democrats need is a convincing argument. "bush is an idiot" is a less then useful thing to say. if bush is an idiot, and he won a second term, who are we?
i don't think bush is an idiot. i think bush is wrong. he thought iraq was a threat. he was wrong. he won't admit that, but that's not so important. he knows it now.
give me something to be proud of. i can convince people to join me in something i'm proud of. denegrating the president only hurts us all.
