Scary Dreams

| | Comments (1)

it's almost halloween. here are two scary dreams that emerged from our bed in the past two nights:

1) it's the day of the wedding but we've totally forgotten to mail out invitations so no one knows to come. we're at the wedding hall which is huge and full of people but the rabbi is a total moron and doing everything wrong so i have to fire her half-way through the ceremony. i replace her with my sister who decides to rebuild the mood by leading everyone in a chorus of Jinglebell Rock.

2) madhavi buys a wedding dress thinking that maybe the style will grow on her and if not she can find something else. she forgets to find something else so has to wear it. the style is "your wedding dress has a hole in it."

do you find weddings frightening?

i do.

we just made a budget for the wedding. people keep saying things like, "weddings don't have to be expensive" or "just do something simple." invariably i find these are people who ARE NOT MARRIED.

cutting everything we can and planning absolutely nothing frilly we're looking at $20K easy. i mean, i suppose we could get married in the YMCA and not serve any food and forget about flowers for the bride and not have a band (but it's hard to hora to a dj) and only serve sparkling cider and mountain dew...

then it would only cost $18K.

i just found out how much my sister's wedding cost. it was, i thought, a simple wedding. basic meal. free rent. free clergy. some flowers. a band. definitely a perfect wedding without all that other nonsense. it was all about (and lousy with) good energy and love and everyone left crying tears of joy.

it cost a gobzillion dollars.

weddings are just freaking expensive.

we're actually going to a wedding tonight. our lovely friends ron and meghan. we bought them all sorts of scuba toys 'cause they're going to learn to dive on their honeymoon.

their wedding planning has been a nightmare. no, really. nightmare. luckily, they're good for each other and after tonight they'll be married.

don't you think that's what's really important?

i do.

i do.

i do.

not that i haven't helped freak you out with actual wedding costs, but if it's any consolation, i have seen and attended the hellacheep costs almost nothing wedding. and not just the "get hitched at city hall and let's go have drinks" wedding. the hellacheep wedding is invariably the hippie wedding, however. it's about getting married in a very nice park (e.g. santa cruz, overlooking the ocean), and then going to another park, and having the reception at a picnic site where you serve indian food or something and then you sing and play volleyball.

how about punk rock kickwedding? i'll bring the bud.
