Never Sleeping Again

|

okay. so i'm just warning you now. this is the creepiest story i've ever heard. if you're easily boogified, turn back now.

met a woman today, sales rep for a super fancy hotel that's trying to woo our business. she had me and a colleague to their restaurant for lunch and it was tops. five star meal.

she's slovakian. moved to the states about eight years ago and was working at a hotel out by yosemite. we'll call her sue. there were some exceptionally ugly murders out there in 1999. a woman and her daughter and her daughter's friend. then another woman. everyone's pretty freaked out. sue doesn't speak great english, but she hangs out with the other hotel staff. takes cigarette breaks, etc, and they all talk about these murders. scared about them. she's so scared, she gets the handyman at the hotel to walk her to her car at night. gets him to teach her some self-defense.

thing is, the handyman was cary stayner, the killer. she worked at the cedar lodge with him. described him as tall, handsome and friendly. cary, she says, was well loved. the owner had him look after his wife and kids when he left town. sue talked to him about the murders. afraid of the killer, she asked cary to walk her through the dark to her car.

*shudder*

i told her i thought i'd never sleep well again. she said she was fairly freaked out for months. she also said that when they arrested cary, they all thought the police were mad. that cary was such a nice guy he couldn't possibly have murdered four people so brutally.

he did though.

are you spooked out? it is october after all. halloween is coming...

vancouver was great. i walked twelve miles, drank half a box of wine, and laughed until my sides hurt. it was fantastic to see patrick and susie!

the black rider was also quite good, but marianne faithful sure did suck.
