Retwisted

somehow in the middle of the night, i retwisted my ankle.

i was spending perhaps my last night in madhavi's loft. a loft i will not miss. and the pain woke me up. it was all ow-ow-ow. i finally got up and wobbled down the stairs and took me some mo-fo advil.

it was an intense night. madhavi finally got ahold of her moms in oz-trailer and listening to her tell her mum about us moving in together THIS SUNDAY made it all sink in to alert level red.

are you here for the rest of you life? tickets please! thank you. come right in.

not that i'm regretting moving in with madhavi in the slightest, or feeling hesitant about buying her flowers for ever, just sometimes having it tacked to your forehead with a penny nail makes it a little difficult to sleep.

or breathe.

as the alcoholics say, "one day at a time" and "make mine a double."

so now i need to start the pack-pack-packing for reals. anyone want a tape deck? no? i didn't think so. i guess i'll leave it on the street then.

we've also made a big decision. are you ready? here's the announcement and you may be the first to hear it:

we are going to use my flatware.

i think mine's a little more solid, plus her forks are more long and pointy while mine are wider and better for the scooping of rice and the spearing of chunky things.

i know. it's a big decision. but i feel good about it.

also, and i hesitate to share this, but i'm a little sorry i didn't go to that last phish concert ever in vermont with the boys. i read an article about it in the new york times. about how the band got all weepy and played the shit out of things and about how trey just handed their trampolines out to the audience after they played their trampoline song as they were never going to play that again. like ever.

i mean, i like that band and all, and i always enjoyed those concerts when i went which was when the boys were all like, "hey, were going to vegas to see phish and you should come." but i think it's also more of a life-cycle thing. i went to see them for the first time when i was just out of high school. alison and i drove up to hampton beach, NH to see them play in this crappy little club where they wouldn't let us dance because they were afraid the floor would collapse. i had to sneak alison in because she wasn't over 18 and we sat down in chairs front row center a minute before the band came on. that was a long time ago.

and yes, i was a bona-fide hippie for a while there. with long hair and a beard and i tie-dyed my own shirts. shirts i also just left out on the street this week. goodbye old zack! bye bye! bye bye! okay now. bye bye!

so i think the fact that phish has played their last show just as i'm about to move in with madhavi is fitting and bittersweet. i understand the last song they played was The Curtain, which has this refrain:

"As he saw his life run away from him, thousands ran along, chanting words from a song, 'Please me have no regrets.' "

that's pretty fucking perfect, isn't it?

what? i'm being all emotional? well, i can't tell stories about me forgetting to wear any pants every day. i mean, i only have ONE of those stories.

also,

i think i'm going to get a new TV. anyone have a nice one they want to get rid of so they can upgrade? c'mon. you know you want to buy some flat panel HDTV hoopty-hoo and sell me your perfectly good flat screen tv with a freakin' mute button. my tv bites it.

i need a freakin' mute button. (on my tv.)

we're all praying that phish never has a reunion concert and that your readers recover their faith in you after citing their lyrics in your blogg.
